Wish....the only reason I brought it up was because I accidentally continued to watch CNN and they were playing an anniversary (very well done) replay of the whole thing. I believe it was a first run. It easily brought back the whole thing, with the details included. They interviewed a particular family where some made it and some didn't, and they recalled the incident as if it happen yesterday.  Jackie Spier's input was also wild to hear. The Progressives at that time are now considered moderates to Caddy Liberals, but they were the one's that brought Jim Jones to the limelight. But it's hard to blame them for a massacre lead by a disturbed man. But they knew the dirt, and maybe they didn't see it coming.  Jonestown will never go away in SF's history or national news, if it had I wouldn't have caught it on CNN.  I just remember a sad holiday season. It seems so surreal looking back. 

The Documentary I watched a few months ago was on the National geographic channell. It was chilling. However one thing struck me. Can you imagine if any Conservative had ever been connected to someone like this. Jim Jones was literally abetted in his rise, and granted tons of prestige, and power and as the newpaper guy reported shielded from investigation and scrutiny by the political establishment including Willie Brown and Diane Feinstein along with Moscone and Harvey Milk and a whole bunch of other now noted liberal biggies in SF.

What Jim Jones did was close to what the entire KKK did cumulatively over decades to black people. His methodology was a classic Soviet KGB tactic of incremental acceptance of suicide practices through brainwashing. What did the political establishment do with this monster? Gave him a prominent position of Housing Director. Any background checks? Nope. Just gave him power because of his stated value system being identical to theirs..

Any consequences to anyone here?

Of course the Geneva Convention outlaws the Muslims doing such things but the Kenyan Dictator castigates the israelis for "criminally" building apartments on their own land and says zippo about the Muslims.

And of course it always cuts ice for Republicans to say someone "changed" to exhonorate themselves from people they backed, right?

Right now you have Rangel getting a slap on the wrist for overt tax cheating, tax Cheat Tom Daschel getting off and still cranking out confiscatory policy as a Czar assistant, and Turbo Tax Cheat Tim Geithner who was literally handed the money to pay taxes but kept it anyway and didnt pay them, still sitting their destroying the economy with no consequences (as titular head of the IRS) while business people are called crooks for making "obscene profits" while Obamas Unions got 48 billion of taxpayer money handed to them for votes. And BTW lets hear it for that 3 BILLION the Government employees collectively are in a delinquent state on taxes they still owe.

And is was a classic watching two democrats on Cavutos program castigating the Republicans for causing a 4 trillion dollar deficit. he asked "how?" because the Democrats have controlled all spending since 2006. Thats how baldfaced is their lying and refusal to see anything they do as wrong.
