Why is Barack Obama president of the United States? Media coddling? A weak McCain campaign? A strong, if dishonest, effort by Obama to present himself as a pragmatic centrist? All of these things played a role, but the advent of the subprime crisis at the height of the 2008 presidential campaign was the decisive factor. No drama Obama responded well, while McCain seemed over his head.

As America teeters on the brink of a second financial crisis, I think back to 2008, and the irony of a suprime mortgage fiasco propelling to the presidency a man who’d spent a career abetting the folks who’d caused the crisis to begin with. Despite releasing an Internet ad on ACORN, Obama, and the subprime meltdown, the McCain campaign was unwilling or unable to pursue the issue. The Clinton administration’s gutting of credit standards in the name of fair housing, in close cooperation with ACORN and Fannie Mae, laid the foundations of the mortgage crisis of 2008. Yet in the second presidential debate, McCain did nothing to combat Obama’s claims that the crisis was strictly a product of under-regulation. In the third debate, Obama flat-out lied about his longstanding ties to ACORN. The media, of course, let him get away with it.

While many conservatives know the real story well, the country as a whole has still barely heard it. The important new book by Gretchen Morgenson and Joshua Rosner has begun to break the fuller truth about the 2008 financial meltdown into public awareness, yet even there the focus is on Fannie Mae, while the ACORN connection is given short shrift. Fannie Mae would never have gone south if ACORN hadn’t pulled it into the subprime business in the first place. ACORN’s national banking campaign was coordinated by Obama’s close political allies at the group’s Chicago office, which Obama was heavily funding through two foundations at the time.

you are probably HAPPY that the downgrade occurred - thinking that perhaps THIS is the (small) price we pay to get rid of obama after one term... i have no doubt that jim demint feels that way... this certainly makes the president's job more difficult - but i think it will backfire and return the house to the dems... people will realize that "electing crazy" doesn't really help the situation...

Your premise is that the debt ceiling is the key element in whats happening now.

Ergo your assumption that because the Republicans didnt want to raise the debt ceiling all the bad things are happening.
All the claims of hostage taking blah blah blah.

Two things

You are and have been ignoring all the things I have posted and linked that clearly point to a different conclusion.

You are ignoring everything the entire rest of the world is saying about us and DOING that totally blows up your assumption.

The Democrats solution to the "DEBT crisis" as opposed to "debt CEILING not being raised" crisis is analogous to the Heroin addict claiming that theres not a thing wrong with him that the mean person who took away his heroin could solve HIS PROBLEM if he would just give him back his heroin. Its not the addiction he has, its the lack of heroin.

If EVERYTHING the Democrats say they want were given to them it wouldnt BEGIN to dent the problem for that reason.

They want taxes raised. Fine. On who? The 7 10ths of 1 percent who are paying more than the bottom 52% of the country? It isnt fair what the 7/10ths of 1 percent are doing? The mean top 10% who are paying 90% of the taxes are greedy? The bottom 50% who pay nothing arent?

OK take it all. 100% of their income.

That pays for 7 days of HEW. Now what? You got what you wanted. Thats the result.

I call it a pathology for that reason.
A patyhology as any book on psychiatry will tell you tricks the vicitm into thinking things that are entirely irrelevant are meaningful.

When they forced S&P tpo NOT downgrade Fannie Mae it was not poltical on their part. You could take  all their money as I said, and only do one thing. Kill every job in the private sector because no one would have any money to hire anyone else..

Raising the debt ceining is no different (as Mark Steyn says above that you didnt read) than imagining that the solution to your runaway credit card bills is to get another credit card or raise the limits on exisiting ones so you can make your minimum payments on the others.

That your solution? That IS your solution.

The path of the Democrats in congress is the same one every third world rat hole went down in which a dictator ended up printing all the moeny he needed to hand out until it all became worthless. That is us now. Printing counterfeit money endlessly (raising the debt ceiling)until it all becomes worthless. They are counterfeiting 110 billion a month, 40% of every Federal dollar being spent. Counterfeiting your plan? As a matter of fact it is.

I can only think that your thinking filters ALL the facts and then chooses to discard those that dont fit the picture you would prefer to see.

I pointed out now, two years ago, when the Porkulus bill and Obabacare and TARP II were rammed up the country's ass that this was the plan. What we are seeing now isnt any attepmt to rectify problems or deficits.

It is the second phase of the original plan.

Dramatically increase the money the Government gets or takes, increaase the size of government "jobs", then when all hell begins to break down, do everything to keep as much of what you stole. Pretty obvious.

Part of that strategy is to do three things:

Lie about what the problem is.
Distract from the problems and claim the debt isnt the problem its the refusal to accept the new debt (6 trillion)
demonize anyone with any plan to roll back the robbery's booty.

Everyone says the DEBT run up is the problem

except

The Democrats replace that reality with the problem is the DEFICIT not the DEBT. ie the difference between money coming in and money needed to meet the credit card minimum monthly payments while NEVER reducing the debt itself they ran up.

The deficit can be solved by cutting back the money stolen and manadated to be further stolen in the future ie reducing the debt
or
steal more money to make your credit card minimum monthly payments.

All you and the Democrats are saying now is tantamount to "a balanced approach" means not giving back everything they stole. the balanced approachi sthey get to keep all they stole and we need to destroy private sector jobs to give government enough money to be able to keep all the counterfeit debt still on the books.

The rating services are saying unless you do well watch your debt become what it has been for Greece and is starting to happen to Spain and Italy.

Notice how all those governments are saying they need to do what the so called "Tea Party" congressmen are saying here. Cut the debt. Cut the spending. No more printing counterfeit money.

HINT there isnt any Tea Party in Euroland. Now one would think the Democrats would admit that. They wont. They have been and will continue to fight a propaganda war because they have no real workable plan or actions.

Which is why my view is they are doing what they intended all along. Trying to destroy the American economy. Wipe out the middle and upper middle class just like evrey other Marxist-Leninist dictatorship has always done. So far they are succeeding. First the republican auto dealers. Then the doctors. Then the management of the insurance companies. Then the entrepreneurs.

Interesting sidelight.

One of the companies reported to day as having jobs to offer is Snap-On-Tools. I called them. They are offering finaced franchises.

Question: if you take their offer and get great terms to start their franchise you have to hire people. Human beings. Now check out all the mandates vis a vis hiring people given Obamacare and Dodd Frank where if you hire people and get borrowed money you must conform to a million unrelated manadtes on everything from diversity to ex- post hiring reporting requirements with many more in the pipeline to come you cant even figure out now.
And dont forget to check with EPA if you have anything to do with metals or fuels which they do.

And punitive fines for forgetting anything. Tons more ongoing reporting and way more expensive compliance audits. All this is why i sold one of my businesses and released my employees. My future audit cost went from $700 a year to $7000.

You arent aware of any of these things.
