at least rob "bicycles are the source of all evil in the world" anderson provides some useful information in his posts, and dialogues with others, even on threads he hasn't created, so i'm not including him here (c-pus takes pride in asserting that he only posts on threads he himself has created and does not dialogue with some posters, such as myself, and incidentally, that hurts me so deeply i think i might go out and torture a bear just to excise the pain, but i digress)... chamot pretty much also is only concerned with threads he begins...i'm not advocating banning, but i would suggest not encouraging them... don't feed the trolls...i guess i'll have to fill the poll out with some other irritants...

All three of us---Chamot, Chrys, and I---have something to say, whether you agree or not. Like everyone else who posts here, I only post when I think I have something to say/add to the discussion. So what's the point of Wish's post? To ridicule people he/she disagrees with. Chrys is dealing not just with Ammiano but with the manifest shortcomings of the city's "progressive" leadership, which is often flakey, irresponsible, and self-righteous, which is a very important issue.

Which brings us to the characterization of my perspective as "bicycles are the source of all evil in the world." This is a good example of what Chrys and I object to. Instead of a reasoned response, we get a slur. Even though I've been writing about the bicycle issue in great detail on my blog and on this board for more than three years now, this kind of response is typical from progressives, who rarely do any homework on the issues. After all, why should they? They already have the answers, which is why you don't see my blog listed on the blogrolls of the city's "progressive" blogs. I still often get this: "Gee, Rob, what do you have against bikes?" The implication is that Bikes are Good and Cars are Bad, so what else do we need to know? A lot, actually. For openers they should consider the ambitious, 527-page Bicycle Plan itself which is available online on the MTA website. And a lot of the filings of our successful litigation against the city are available online, too.

The assumption underlying politics in SF is that there is in fact a self-evident progressive agenda that all people of goodwill can/should adopt automatically on their arrival here in Progressive Land. Even a cursory examination of the facts on a number of issues---the bicycle fantasy, homelessness, housing---reveals this assumption to be completely false.
