Hopefully this is a trend that continues. If only we could get all "progressives" to move to Fairfield... Member Posts: 3647 Oct 11 09 10:35 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Fleet Week is a disgusting celebration of war and militarism, a recruitment fest for imperial wars of aggression, a costly boondoggle to the city at a time of financial crisis, and a danger to the community. None of that has changed under Obama, but what has changed is that fewer liberals have the stomach for challenging it, when there's a Democratic president. As for your article, I don't know what it has to do with the topic, except that it's an irony that Friedman is bemoaning the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to the President. The same phenomena that's responsible for Obama receiving the prize, is the very same one that makes all those militaristic policies that Friedman adores suddenly seem palatable to a broad array of people.

"Imperial wars of aggression" start with congress, not with the military. If you're going wag your finger at someone or something, make sure it's pointed in the right direction. Well, actually congress abdicated that right a long time ago, but that's beside the point. We can certainly protest Congress as well, but in the current situation, "Congress" doesn't come to town making a big show of recruiting for these wars. The Blue Angels do. There are also two other excellent reasons to end this awful spectacle -the cost, and the danger. Interestingly, I was talking to a few patients I had over the weekend, most of whom were non-political -just ordinary people, even some who took the kids to see the Blue Angels. They pretty much all agreed that it was a bad idea to have them here, for varying reasons -mostly the traffic disruption and danger of having them here over a populated area. I think that if you put it up to a vote in San Francisco, educated people about the costs to the city, the accidents that have happened in other places, I think that between the anti-war progressives and sensible non-dogmatic moderates, you'd get a large majority to agree that SF should pull out the welcome mat.

" Just the other day, I was listening to a KPFA interview with Buffy Saint-Marie, the famous Native American folk singer who was censored by the Johnson and Nixon administrations. At one point she was talking about songwriting in general, how you could explain something in a well-crafted 3 minute song that might take someone a book to explain in prose. How true! I'd bet that an honest to goodness vote (and not some ridiculous SF Bay Guardian poll) would overwhelmingly come out in support of the weekend. Just my two cents.

Answer: Anti-war Protests How do you know a war is going on when a Democrat is the President? Answer: You wouldnt because there are no protests anywhere. There are no soldiers dieing either. How do you know that is so? Answer: Because if they were it would be on TV like it is when Republicans are elected. How do you know when the next war has begun? The anti-war movement isnt really against war. Its against Republicans being in power. So it begins to protest anything going on when republicans are in power. Since Democrats start wars and then demonstrate they cant do anything about them, the people turn to the Republicans to fight the war, which means its then time for the left to be against war. What else disappears when Democrats get elected? Answer: Homelessness is another circumstance that disappears when Democrats get elected. The homeless cease to exist. Although the Democrats invented the homeless the dont exist when Democrats get elected. How do you explain all this? Answer: Its really simple. Democrats by law can never do anything bad. Its impossible for them to do anything bad because they are such good people. Like Kanye West. And they are universally brilliant so they never make any mistakes. All their plans work immediately and keep working until a Republican gets elected. Then all the plans and things that work, suddenly, because of the adverse election result, dont work anymore. So all kinds of people that were leading productive lives suddenly are homeless when they werent before. And its all because of the election result. If you could stop holding elections once Democrats get elected all the worlds problems go away and stay away forever. How do you know this? Keith Olberman and Rachell Madow tell me this every night on the only station I watch on TV.

Afghanistan didn't begin 6-12 months after Obama became president. It began 6-12 months after Bush became president. Iraq took a bit longer, but I'm pretty sure Bush started it, not Obama. Maybe you're talking about the first Iraq war. Nope, that was Bush too. Pretty sure they're Rethugs. That said, I hear your point about the hypocrisy of some Democrats (not progressives, and not all Democrats). I have no defense for their behavior. All I know is that Afghanistan and Iraq were wrong then, and they're still wrong now. My position is totally consistent.

Unfortunately you always suffer from fact omission. As in the war didnt begin in Afghanistan. At all. It began in 1993 at the first WTC bombing. So says Abdul Rakhman. Thanks to jaime Gorelicks "wall" you and the american public were purposely kept ignorant. Who did Gorelick work for? You remember? Afghanistan was simply the first time we struck back. Did anything about the ten attacks before then. We can argue that one another day. My questions and riddles stand at this point.
